We had a wonderful few days visiting daughter (R), Baby A and son-in-law (S). Unfortunately, we didn't get to do what we planned on Saturday as Baby A and S came down with strep and daughter came down with it the day we left! I'm holding my breath hoping it avoids us especially as Baby A and I shared cake on her birthday.
She is growing up so beautifully. I can't believe how far her speech has come just within the month and a half since we last saw her. Last time her favourite thing to say was "I got it!" this time it was "I can do it myself". She's so independent, wanting to do everything herself. She wanted to sit and cuddle with me as soon as I got there which is so lovely. We spent a lot of time playing with her dolls, reading books and colouring.
The drive there and back - yikes! I could have done without that. On the way there, we left before daylight, and the roads were really icy. It had rained the night before and froze. Husband said it felt as though there were ruts of ice on the road and several times we slipped. He's a confident winter driver, but even he said it was a little hairy! Once we got out of Michigan the roads weren't as bad though we did go through some snow showers as we drove along. On the way back we had freezing rain for most of the drive through Wisconsin. The car heater couldn't keep up and the ice was quite thick on parts of the windshield. Husband drove steady with no sudden moments and once we hit mid-Wisconsin things dried up.
I was in the back of the car so couldn't get a great photo of the ice, but this was it in the front.
Baby A who always makes me smile! We were taking photos of us, but I got stuck way in the back lol. She likes to see herself in the camera!
So now I'm back home, trying to get into the groove of everyday life. New Year, New Plans. I wrote a few down on the long, long car drive lol. I'll hopefully post a few goals later this week. I think if I write them down it helps me hold myself accountable getting them done!
Hope everyone has had a good start to the year.

Gorgeous Granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteThat freezing rain making ice on the windscreen sounds frightening, not something that happens here -thank goodness.
She is adorable.
DeleteIt was quite thick. I'm glad I was in the back seat!
That is some ice!
ReplyDeleteWriting a list always makes me feel I've made a start 😌
It was a little scary
DeleteI am trying to make lists. I just need to make sure I write extras down so that I actually get extra things done.
Happy New Year to you, Sharon. Sounds like you had a lovely time, but, so sorry to hear about your daughter and family getting sick; I hope you didn't catch it. Sounds like it was a rather scary drive there and back! But, now you are home and I'm looking forward to what your plans and goals are for the New Year. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe snow, melt, Ice, rain, freeze whatever pattern is getting very old. I worry about my kids commutes when both coming and going is dark. I'm glad you had a good visit and hope you escaped the strep or other illness. I'm just finally starting to feel human.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it gets any easier when they get older. I still worry about them and they are all in their thirties. I suppose the only good thing is that they grew up driving in it and seem to all handle it ok, not like scaredy cat Mum lol
DeleteI hate travelling on icy roads so my heart would have been in my mouth. Gosh hasn't the little one come on. They grow up so quickly don't they.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty scary. I tried hard not to make noises so I didn't distract husband!
DeleteShe is getting so big and her vocabulary is coming along nicely. I worried with her mum and brother having to have speech therapy but I think she's doing fine.
We here in WI have more of that icy mess today. Most schools are cancelled. I DO NOT drive in that. I've been in too many slip slidding in the ditch, hit a pole, stuck in the snow moments in my life. I'm too old to do it any longer. I do same to keep my self accountable. Only, I usually make an announcement or create an event to "bully" myself into doing it. I'd rather "kill" myself keeping my word that feel disappointment when I didn't do the thing I said I would. I'm getting too old for that too!
ReplyDeleteI don't drive in it either. I'm glad I don't have to.
DeleteI'm trying to keep on track. I get so easily sidetracked. I do really need to get things done this year!
Oh, I forgot....your grand is adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think so too lol
DeleteWhat a horrendous journey, but so worth it to spend precious time with your daughter and granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteIt was well worth it. Would be a nicer drive if her birthday was in summer lol
