Monday Monday

A bit of a moan about the weather - it's been really hot and humid here the last few days. We've been under a heat advisory for days. It always feels as though I'm breathing through a piece of cloth over my face when it's this hot and humid outside. I didn't go out at all yesterday. Today I did a small walk with my friend. It was almost 80f/32C when I went out at 6am this morning . We tried to stay in the shade, but if we do that the bitey flies (my name for them) get me. It doesn't matter what spray you put on; they bite. I'm allergic to this kind. I got bit the other day when we were out in the woods and first my thumb swelled up and then my wrist started to swell up too. Ugh.

Okay, that's the moan out of the way.

Despite the heat, I have been quite productive. I got a couple of junk drawers sorted yesterday and started on the tall bookcase that I have. Today I sorted out some listing stuff and got that done. I also did a food shop - not my favourite thing to do, but it's done now! Because of the heat, I am trying not to turn on the oven too much. I need to find some slow cooker recipes as I think that would generate less heat in the house. The good thing is, we are eating more salads lol.

Husband and son are back at work and things are slowly getting back to normal. They really enjoyed their week off. They did a lot of relaxing. They both work hard so it was really good for them to enjoy some time when they didn't have to do a lot of anything. I enjoyed walking the beach and the trails. There was some good bird watching at both places we went to.

One of my favourite birds to watch - Black-crowed Night Heron

There were two hanging around the lagoon. I finally got to see one of them catch a fish and then fly away with it! They are really patient hunters. Much more patient than I usually am lol.

I have lots of photos to sort through. I could end up getting distracted and spending most of the day sorting through them, but I am writing lists and trying to get things done. I have some work to do on time management. That's an ongoing struggle. I am definitely doing better than I was, but there is room for improvement. I can so easily get distracted.

  1. I heard on the news that there was a severe heat warning in parts of the country. Try to stay cool and hydrated. You got quite a bit accomplished despite the heat! Well done! Lovely photos of the heron and its catch!

  2. You do get the extremes of weather; it was only recently I was marvelling at your pictures of ice on the lake.
I can quite see how sawing up great chunks of ice in winter to store until summer became such an industry in the past.
I also find the variety of birdlife you see amazing. It must be hard to go back to the human drum daily life after the week away.

    1. It seems in the winter we spend all the time heating up our houses and in summer cooling them down. Surely there has to be a cheaper way lol.
It was a lovely week away, So calm and peaceful. With all that's going on around here it was so nice to be away from it all and spending time in nature.

    1. They are horrible. Far worse than the mosquitoes. They bite and I swell up. Horrible.
Thanks for the comments about the photos. I really enjoy watching them.

  4. Poor you. I don't normally succumb to bitey insects but this year they got me good and proper. I'm going to sort out my crockery cupboard today. I have so much china in there that doesn't get used.

    1. I hope you managed to get the crockery cupboard sorted.
The flies are really horrible. They aren't deterred by any sort of spray and when they bite I swell up for quite a while!

  5. Bitey insects are awful and their impact is felt for days afterwards. I sympathise with you over the humidity - it really drains your energy.
Your heron photographs are lovely - how lucky to catch a heron with a fish.
