It's been a bit cooler here over the weekend though it's going to heat up again tomorrow and onward. Still, I have enjoyed it while I could. Saturday I was actually up in the craft room. There was a lot of moving things around from one spot to another, but I did sort out a small pile that I'm willing to get rid of. I am in the process of clearing off the desk, so I'll at least have a spot to work. I'm hoping that once I start creating, I can see what brings me enjoyment and what I can decide to get rid of. At least that's the plan! It isn't a big room but, if it wasn't for all the stuff in there, it would be enough for me.
Today husband and I went out for the morning. We did stop by the beach. It was quite pleasant as we were there when it was fairly cool. There is still smoke in the air, so the sun wasn't really hot. There weren't a lot of people around either (which I particularly enjoyed lol). There were quite a few people fishing. After we had stopped there, we drove along the lakeshore a bit and stopped at another park. That was also quiet (at least for a while). We sat on an old bit of concrete (think it used to be part of a pier) and enjoyed looking at the lake and hearing the gentle lap of the water. I really miss the sound of waves on the beach, but there was a tiny breeze so a little bit of sound!
This afternoon I chatted with daughter and Baby A. They are all feeling so much better now. Baby A was her usual funny self. I so enjoy spending time with her. Even at her age (while it holds her attention) she's good at carrying the phone around and even propping it up so I can watch her lol.
This week I have to really work on the budget. Last month was quite a strain on finances. This month I need to buckle back down. I am really debating whether I should start writing down everything that we spend. Do you do that? I'm sure I'd find out some things that we spend more on than we should.
Phone Photos for today -
All-in-all it hasn't been a bad weekend. I've been pretty productive too! How was your weekend?
We met up with our 2 children on Saturday morning, zoom church for me on Sunday morning and otherwise quiet.
ReplyDeleteI've been through phases where I wrote down everything, to the last car part fee magazine and postage stamp, when I was really strapped for cash. It was really helpful, also roughing out annual budgets, clothes, shoes, school uniform, food, holiday, presents, the lot. Helpful, even if it proved we couldn't afford the new carpet, new whatever!
That sounds like a nice weekend.
DeleteI'm leaning towards writing it down even though I'll find it difficult. Husband is hoping to retire in three years and I really want to see what we can do to change things in retirement. We want to be able to spend money on things we enjoy rather than just let it slip through our fingers.
If our spending begins to rocket, I print out a calendar month and we both write everything we spend, me in red him in blue, it's an eye opener, the small amounts do mount up.
ReplyDeleteOh that's a good idea! I'm sad to say the red bits (me) would be worse than him!
DeleteI'm glad you had cooler weather during the weekend and to hear that your daughter and Baby A are feeling better. I hope that you are feeling better, too.
ReplyDeleteI need to make a new budget now that my daughter is home. When I first started out budgeting, I kept a spending log and wrote down every penny I spent and on what. I did that for several months, actually, to keep track of what I was spending and to make sure I was staying within budget. These days, I only do that level of tracking with groceries.
My husband is hoping to retire in three years and it sounds as though we really need to track everything to work out where things can be cut and where we can save so that we can spend money on things we enjoy rather than squander it!
DeleteWhat a great day out. When the weather is good its great to get out of the house and enjoy the day. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was a lovely day.
DeleteI like the den on the beach.
ReplyDeleteI used to write down everything I spent when my children were little (a long time ago!) It does help to highlight where the money goes.
I find it fun to see things like that.
DeleteI used to be a lot better about tracking spending when the family was all here and money was a lot tighter. I just know that, when husband retires in three years, we are going to have to do a bit better as we want to be able to still do fun things!
For the past couple of years, I have set up a spread sheet of our monthly expenses. As hubby is retired now, it helped/helps plan out how much we have to spend each month. We did it primarily so we could figure out how much money we needed each month to cover our expenses. Now I just do it each month to see how much under/over budget we are.
ReplyDeleteMy husband hopes to retire in three years so that's why I wanted to work out what's going out and where. I know there are little things we can get rid of so that we can have the money to do the things we really want to. Thanks so much for the input. I am thinking that I'll probably have to track spending just so I can see!
DeleteWe suffered really bad wind damage in the garden yesterday. My beautiful hollyhock is no more. Hopefully it'll come back next year.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I'm really sorry to hear that. I do hope it will come back. Sometimes plants are really resilient
