We had a lovely time away. The driving was...well, dodgy at times. There were several lots of white-out conditions. We played a game of 'Are we on the road' and 'Is there a car up ahead'. It was pretty hairy at times. By the time we got into Mackinaw City on Friday though the sun was shining!!! It shone the rest of the afternoon there, all day Saturday and up until the time we left on Sunday. Weren't we lucky? It was terribly, bitterly cold. On the Friday the wind was horrendous which made things even feel worse. We had thought about going up into the Upper Peninsula, but the drifting up there was pretty bad and the road we wanted to travel on closed and didn't reopen until Sunday.
Not my photo
This road goes along the lakeshore, and the wind had blown snow across the road causing drifts. They ended up shutting the road as people kept getting stuck!
We ended up driving along where we were and visited some beautiful spots. The ice was amazing. Saturday, even though it was well below freezing, without the wind it was bearable for small periods of time. We were both well-prepared and dressed in layers.

I'm glad you had a good time even if it was so cold. Love the photo of you and your husband, all bundled up. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. We both were wrapped up well lol
DeleteIt looks so cold, maybe I should stop moaning about all the rain here.
ReplyDeleteIt was very cold. Still is. Roll on Spring!
DeleteI can understand why the men would grow a thick beard in those winters. Unimaginable. But so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt can be quite beautiful. I used to stay inside all the time, we both did, but if you don't enjoy at least parts of it you're miserable for months lol. I wish I was braver to drive in it.
DeleteStunning photographs, Sharon. The cold really is extreme in your area. How does life continue? I suppose it has to, but no wonder there are so many accidents.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm.
Thank you.
DeleteI think people just have to get on with it. When I first moved here, I didn't understand why a lot of older people spent winters somewhere warmer. I'm beginning to understand!
First - dodgy, yes...I love British words! I've spent last 3 months watching shows on Masterpiece PBS. I'm learning so many new words...ahaha! Second - yes, super cold! Third and most important - I wouldn't cross that Mackinac Bridge on a still day much less a windy one! So scary!!! The snow bank - WOW!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the bridge at all. As long as I'm not thinking about the underneath and husband drives on road part and not on the grates I'm mostly ok now. I keep my mind on what's on the other side!
DeleteI hope you're enjoying the PBS shows. There are some great ones on there. I really enjoy them!
