Plodding Through the Week - Decluttering - Sigh

I really feel as though I'm dragging this week. I think I'm going through one of my sleepy periods. Not that I've been sleeping fantastically, but it's not been too bad when I can actually sleep through husband's snoring. I've been having sleepy moments in the afternoon. It's a good thing I've been writing the lists otherwise I might just doze the day away lol.

It's been so cold the last couple mornings. This morning was about 25F/-4C when I went out and felt colder than that. I didn't really feel like walking too much, but I had a bit of exercise before going to the post office and stopping to pick up a few bits. There weren't a lot of people around either. No surprise. I think that if I didn't feel 'off' all day if I don't walk, I would have stayed inside! There are signs of Spring around, but wow, I could really do with it being a bit warmer outside! I think my heating bill could use it too! I keep telling myself to be patient and things will warm up soon, but this cold is really dragging on! It's supposed to be cold again tomorrow, but I'll be dragging myself out for a walk.

House stuff tomorrow - I really need to sort out what's going on with the dining room. Some old furniture bits and a new furniture bit are sitting there waiting for me to make up my mind what's going to happen with them! They aren't in the way too much, but they are making it a little cluttered. I'm also debating with myself whether I'm going to get rid of a chunk more of books. I keep going back and forward with it. Agh! Sometimes I wish a delcuttering fairy would come and get rid of the lot of it and perhaps I wouldn't miss them.

That's the real question though - would I miss them if they were gone? Confession time - some of them I even have on Kindle. I think there are some that I even have double (different covers) of the same book.  Shaking my head. These are ones from a series I collected all of. Most of them are hardcovers so they take up extra room. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to give them up yet though. It actually sounds quite silly when I say it. I might just sort through the bookshelf tomorrow and pull them off and go from there.

What's the thing when decluttering that you struggle the most with? How do you work through keeping v giving them up?

  1. I do adore books and have been decluttering my home for years, since my husband died. This week I gave 3 books to Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood. I prefer to give books to friends who want them. I like the result of decluttering. I have maybe 500 physical books, plus 600 on Kindle. So there are plenty to give away.

    1. That sounds a lot like my collection! I love books. They have got me through some tough times. I now take mine to the library bookshop. I like donating them there as when my son was younger the different activities they held there got him through some tough times. They use the money to help fund some of these activities

  2. Now that I'm older and my eyesight isn't as acute as when I was a child, paperbacks go straight out if the pages are yellowed and the print has faded and I struggle to read them. If I want to reread them I download onto kindle. So, goodbye, sets of Mary Stewart, Little Hiuse in the Big Woods, 'Miss Read'. All gone, all gone!

    1. Good for you! I'm trying to think that way. I'm still struggling. I think some of the 'collections' will be the last to go.

  3. I often pop things into a box in our garage when I'm not totally sure, if after a few months I haven't missed them, they all go to new homes. I now keep just one book of an author I like, always the most enjoyable book. I also keep a few in our spare bedroom, so if visitors start to read they can take the book home.

    1. That is a good idea! I think half this stuff I wouldn't miss if it was gone. I just need a decluttering fairy to come through and make it all disappear. It's the letting go that seems so hard.

  4. Look back at what you've already got rid of and you'll be surprised and encouraged.

  5. 25F is way too cold for me!
I haven't been decluttering recently, but, could you take the books you are not sure if you want to declutter or not and put them in a box (or several boxes) and put them in the basement (if you have one) or a garage or some out of the way place for a few months and see if you miss them? I have several of my books in boxes in the garage to see if I miss having them. If I haven't missed them by June or so, I will get rid of them.

    1. That is something I'm definitely thinking of doing. I think that might work for me!
I'm tired of the cold. I can't wait for a bit more Spring-like weather!
