Summer or September?

Another hot one yesterday. I didn't fancy going up hills and such in the heat but we did get out and about for a walk along the beach. There were so many people about. It looked rather like mid-summer than late September! I rather like it a little quieter. It is supposed to cool down mid-week.

We stopped by a couple of lighthouses. One of them is in the middle of construction. They are replacing the stone walkway out to the lighthouses. Construction was supposed to be finished but it's not done. I think it's both a matter of money and the fact that Lake Michigan has been quite high that the boardwalk has been partially covered that it hasn't been completed. It's a beautiful landmark. I hope it gets finished soon!

The seagulls are starting to use it as a place to sit and watch the beach-goers.

This is the other one we visited - Big Red. Apparently it is one of the most photographed of the Michigan lighthouses. Have to say it isn't my favourite, but is another nice looking one.

Look at that blue sky! I think I caught the sun just walking as I noticed I was a little red when I got home. We didn't stay too long - I don't like sitting out in the sun and husband just turns as red as a beetroot - and we had to get back for son's get-together at my MILs.

I think after eating this I need to take an extra walk this morning!

Weekend

Skyped with Mum yesterday. She seems in good spirits, just taking things as they come. It will only be three weeks until I'll be there and we'll be able to have a good old natter in person.

In the morning hubby and I decided to go check out a couple of lighthouses that we couldn't get to last weekend because the beaches were so packed and there was no parking. They are about an hour away. The first we stopped at was South Haven. It seems it is not in the cards for us to take a walk along the pier. It was closed off as was part of the beach as it was thought someone had fell off the pier the night before. Divers were in the water looking for a body. I heard later they had called off the search.

The waves were a bit wild. They were coming over the pier. The side of the channel that wasn't closed (not a walk out to the pier) was open and there were still people walking out there! I think sometimes because this is a lake people don't respect it as much as the open sea. The photo shows how wavy it can get!

Even at the second lighthouse St. Joe the waves were choppy. I suppose it would make nice background photos for the two weddings that were getting ready to be staged on the beach. A little windy though!

The water looked quite wild coming over the barriers. We couldn't walk all the way out (not that crazy!).

We had a nice walk in the woods today (Sunday). It is now time to get back into the swing of things - hubby is back to work tomorrow where they are really busy and I have to clean things up for daughter who will be here late Thursday night.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Tuesday and a walk

Sad today to hear of the bombing in Manchester. Makes my heart ache.

It was a fairly quiet weekend at our house. We went over to MIL on Sunday to have cake and ice cream for my birthday. In the morning hubby and I went out for a walk. It wasn't very nice out, quite dreary but we did manage 4.25miles. We go camping this next weekend - first of the season - so hopefully the weather will not be so rainy.

It was a really pretty walk. Because of all the rain we've had lately the water was pretty high but we did get to walk along a boardwalk. It was quite slippery though!

Hubby spotted a snake in the water on the way back. We seem to be seeing this darn things everywhere lately!

On the way home we stopped by the lighthouse. The sun was actually coming out though it was quite chilly and windy!

It's been painted! The first time I've seen it up close since then. Sadly there used to be quite a bit of graffiti on it. Now it is all shiny and red.

I worked on some crafts today. It's cooler out this week so nicer to work upstairs in my craft room. I'll share some photos soon.
