It's been an ok week, pretty uneventful. I've been walking most days, doing some house-y stuff and some sorting (more on that next post). I've been reading, listening to some audiobooks, doing a little crafting (YAH) and watching some YouTube videos.
I was trying to find something new to watch. I think I typed in Over 50 Lifestyle Vlogs and most of what came up were channels where women were buying new clothes to try on, or showing how they do their makeup, how to look trendy when you're getting older, that sort of thing. Not exactly what I was looking for. Clothes have never been something I'm all that interested in. I wear comfortable and loose most of the time lol. I was looking for something homier, taking things easy, enjoying life, that sort of thing.
Next, I typed in something about simple life, crafts, that sort of thing. What did YouTube spit out this time? Well, there were a lot of younger 'influencers' as they called themselves, talking about less consumerism, living a 'whimsey' (??) lifestyle, that sort of thing. I clicked on one. Listened to a younger woman talk about consumerism, how it's bad, how we should buy less, scroll less AND then, in the middle of the video, she starts talking about (promoting) a mattress that she has on a piece of furniture in her home!!! The video is sponsored by them. I rolled my eyes and turned off.
I do like watching some YouTube videos, but there are a lot of hauls and showing what they've bought and looking all rather perfect. It's a little bit tiresome. The people I enjoyed watching, seem to be taking 'breaks'. No wonder - it all seems so exhausting!
I like watching craft videos, not the ones that show what they bought, but those that show you how to make things. I enjoy watching people who show the messy and the fails along with all the perfection, though there seems to be less and less of them around. I don't suppose that's what a lot of people want to watch.
Sorry if this is a little bit of a moan. It's not that I watch a lot of YouTube, but once in a while I like to put it on.
Do you watch YouTube? Are there certain people you watch?
Morning View

I do tend to watch quite a few YouTube videos. There are a couple I watch about decluttering, one of which is called the Spacemaker Method. There are a couple of other videos I watch about frugal living and one called Living Your Rich Life, which is about financial management. I enjoy watching them for the most part.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the channels. I will take a look at them.
DeleteI search out music for my blog, and watch... I've said it now.... cats. And kittens. Also clips from The Crown, and how to do it tutorials for something I'm trying to do.
ReplyDeleteLol. Sounds like a good use of YouTube
DeleteI get so cross with so called frugal and thrifty bloggers who really haven't a clue what it means!
ReplyDeleteAfter I've got cross I have to remember that I wouldn't want to be a youtuber - no patience and I can turn them off and not watch!
So true! I think I'm just frustrated with it overall. I think I'll just go back to watching some crafting tutorials
DeleteI really do not like youtube, I will look occasionally if I need information, I rarely scroll these days.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to limit my time. I'm more than a little frustrated with it!
DeleteI love Gaynor Pattle of Experimental Acrylics. Unfortunately she now only blogs fortnightly for about 20 mins but she is delightful, shows all her mistakes and has the most infectious giggle. Plenty of back vlogs, I'm sure you will like her.
ReplyDeleteOh nice! Thanks for the channel. I shall take a look
DeleteI'm rather tired of people curating life all the time. I'd rather watch someone knowledgeable talking about a skill they have, though nothing to do with food. A wood whittler, a musical instrument maker, a stonemason - any of those and more I would find interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think that's what's frustrating me. It all looks so perfect and life just isn't like that. I'd rather see warts and all, unfortunately, I don't suppose they are that popular!
ReplyDelete'Eugenio Monesma' on You Tube has interesting videos about traditional Mediterranean skills. Lots of vintage films. 'What's for dinner..Yasuko's cooking diaries' is a vlog I enjoy. Frugal shopping and simple food, beautifully prepared and presented. If you want to take a canoeing adventure in the Canadian wilderness check out 'Northern Scavenger' channel. His "The Great Land" video is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the channels. I will check them out!
DeleteI watch plenty of YouTube channels, but I take it with a large pinch of salt.
ReplyDeleteI watch Snugglebean Yarns and Iknitwithcatfur for knitting, What's for Tea for cooking and I always watch Rewilding Jude, which is a lot of fun and he admits his fails.
It's another place that's been affected by AI, so I'm particularly careful about the history documentaries that I used to love so much.
I love what's for tea. I do watch her and find it really genuine. I shall have to watch Rewilding Jude.
