Checking In

It's been longer than I thought it would be since I last posted.

We had a good - but really hot - weekend away. We tried to limit time in the sun and - to be honest - couldn't stand out in it long. I sweated even standing still lol. Luckily, the site we were on was in the shade for all but a few hours of the day. There were a couple of showers, but they didn't really mess with the weekend too much. There was a strong storm in Kalamazoo while we were gone, but thankfully the only thing we lost was a tree limb in the back garden.

Tuesday though we lost power from 1am -7pm. Apparently, somebody crashed into a pole at the top of the street in a hit and run and took out a huge area of power. Sigh. It was a hot uncomfortable day. There were several times when we notified that our power was back on...only it wasn't so then I would have to go report another outage. Finally, it did come on!

The mini cabin and some sunrises. The mornings were lovely and peaceful, though during the day it was quite busy. I suppose everyone had the same idea on hot days to get to the beach. I'm not sure how they can sit out in it. I can't do that any longer.

Back home for a little bit now...less time than I thought, but more in the next post.

Hope everyone is doing okay. I've been trying to catch up with blogs.

Saturday - Was there Sunshine?

Was there sunshine? Yes there was! It made me smile.

We did go out for a bit in the morning. Husband said he wasn't going to visit with his brother until the afternoon so we could go out in the morning. As there was actually going to be a sunrise (first one for over a week!) we went to watch it. Actually, I watched it, husband said it was too cold (about 20f/-7C) and sat in the car.

* all phone photos as I haven't sorted through the camera ones.

Even with the sunrise there was a line of clouds above it lol.

After the sunrise we took a drive to a Warren Dunes State Park and took a walk along the beach. It wasn't very sunny there, and it was cold, but it was peaceful and pretty.

We took a walk up in the sand dunes where there was a touch of snow

I've been watching this piece of water dividing the beach for a while. It's moved again. Further along now. It sounds strange but with the winds and the lake waters, this piece of water dividing the beach keeps changing and moving. I've taken photos for years - I really need to dig them out.

It's a lot slimmer at the bottom further along the beach. So interesting to see how much it changes. I've said it before, but considering this is a lake it's amazing how much things change.

Got back home and husband went over to visit his brother. Son went over later for a little while. They didn't stay as long as I thought and were home before I headed out to catch a sunset. I had thought of going to the lake for a sunset, but it was cloudy that way so I stuck to a place in town. I can't actually watch a good sunset, but there were colours in the sky.

I was surprised that it had been cold enough that Asylum Lake had a thin layer of ice on it.

It wasn't a bad day overall. The sunshine helped my mood. I struggled with getting some of my photo project done. It took a lot longer to get any of it done, but I managed three blog posts on my photography blog. Sigh. At this rate it's going to take forever! I am determined to finish it.

Tomorrow, I'm off on a Sunday Adventure. Not sure where it will take me. I like having lazy weekends, where I don't feel guilty for doing indulgent things such as hobbies!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Back to Normal

We're back from our mini-break, so it's a matter of trying to get back into normal. It will be the last weekend away for a little while. We have to replenish our holiday fund - ha, ha. It was a lovely weekend of sunrises, sunsets, waterfalls, two great lakes and lighthouses. Phew! It was quite a packed weekend - lots of driving and looking. Wonderful. I really enjoyed it.

I'll have to do a lighthouse post as some point. We got to see two more we've never seen and one was a repeat though we'd only seen it at a distance. We know there are places we want to go see - lots more lighthouses and beautiful nature places. I LOVE the U.P of Michigan. It is so peaceful up there - so many places where you won't bump into a soul.

I've got some checking up to do on blogs, washing to do and general catching up. Still, nothing that won't go away unless I do it lol. Hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday.

Ah Peaceful!

Had a lovely weekend. The nights were quite chilly and I have amended my list of things to bring with us when we go for a week. My poor legs and feet were cold. I had trouble one night with the tendons in my bad foot and I don't think the cold helped with that. When we arrived on Saturday the weather was absolutely gorgeous.

This is the beach adjacent to our camp site. Absolutely gorgeous. We got in a 5.2 mile walk on Saturday. The forecast for Sunday called for rain but we woke up and it was still dry so we headed off on the hike we wanted to do that day. We just managed to get in the 7.2 miles and get back to camp when the rain started. So glad we did the walk in the morning! When it rained we headed into town and looked around some of the touristy shops and got something to eat (a treat!). By the time we got back to camp the rain was clearing and it turned out to be a glorious evening.

I'll post some more photos as I get them sorted. I loved spending time by the fire and walking along the beach at sunset. Nothing better and more peaceful. Hope everyone had a lovely holiday weekend!
