So Windy!

It was a windy day here in Michigan. The temperature plummeted from 59F (15C) to 39F (4C) in about an hour! What a drop! We had really high winds too. MIL lost power for a few hours but luckily we didn't. A few things were blown around the garden, but we didn't lose any trees (thank goodness). We have a few really tall trees at the bottom of our garden. They have survived wind storms so far but you never know! As I sit here now it sounds as though the winds have settled down a little.

I didn't get a lot done today. We were gone for a lot of the day. We took a trip to the lakeshore and stopped to drop off some things that middle son had bought and had shipped to our house. I think I've said this before but having packages delivered to his apartment usually includes having to either drive to the post office or waiting until the office (located in another apartment complex owned by the same company) is open so he can go get it. That usually doesn't work out too well due to his work/sleep situation.

Husband wanted to get his booster vaccination today so on the way back we stopped to do that and I picked up some shopping while waiting. I later learned that daughter and her husband got theirs done today. My oldest son had his on Thursday so at this point we have all had it. After the shopping/vaccination we stopped at the post office (I was surprised it was still open as it was later on Saturday!) and then we stopped and picked up some bird seed we had ordered online.

The lakeshore was really windy! Husband got out for about two minutes and then decided he was going back in the car. I braved the winds - stayed at a distance - and got some photos. It is really striking to see the waves and to realise that this is a lake - it's not an ocean or sea with regular tides and waves. I had to brace myself to stay on my feet!

This is St Joe Lighthouse close to where my middle son lives. No walking out to the lighthouse today lol.

The In-Between Week

This is an odd week - short too. Christmas is over but we've still got the New Year to see in. I forgot to post again yesterday. I remembered when I was tucked up in bed and frankly I couldn't be bothered to get back out again! I really need to blog earlier in the day. I had thought about it several times throughout the afternoon, but kept forgetting!

We went out for a little walk yesterday. Not too far away as I was Skyping Mum at 12.30 my time (5.30 hers). We got to see some ice along the lighthouse. It's been unseasonably  warm here (we're talking maybe just above freezing lol) so there isn't as much ice as there is usually at this time.

Today I met my walking friend for a dull, dark and chilly walk. Of course now that it's late afternoon and almost time for sunset the sun has decided to come out. Sigh. I was tempted to see if I could go for a really quick walk but my foot is hurting and frankly it's cold out.

After my walk this morning I did go out. I had to replenish some cleaning supplies. I was...well, not really surprised to see Valentine's Day items already out for display. Crikey. That's pushing it a bit in my book!

It did make my smile-for-the-day. I almost laughed out loud in the middle of the shop.

Ugh. Got a case of the blues today. Sad for some reason. Don't have a lot of energy. Might have something to do with the fact that it's dreary and rainy. I did get up in my craft room and do a little crafting. Cheered me up a bit.

Today I'm sharing some photos from Sunday. These are from the lighthouse at St. Joseph in Michigan. It's a little lake town about 45minutes away from us. My son moved there about a year and a half ago when he got a job at the newspaper. Not a lot to do in the town. It's definitely an area that's a little more lively in the summer. We decided to stop there to see the lighthouse.

There was still some ice around.

Walked beneath the supports you see as the water on one side was quite choppy and was coming up over the path.

Quite a view from beneath the icicles.

This post looks like it's wrapped in plastic but it's actually covered in ice.

This one draped in ice mixed with sand.

The top photo is of the light behind the lighthouse. The water was quite choppy. I couldn't look at it for long. It made my stomach churn and I felt quite sea sick! There are no barriers between the walkway and the water, just a drop. I clung onto hubby's hand and didn't let go! I felt quite brave walking along there. I made sure I kept closer to the other side where the water was a lot calmer!

Brrrr it's cold here in Michigan! It was -17c yesterday morning when I got up. Next week the high is going to be 11c. That's a crazy swing of temperatures. We'll all be outside in our tee shirts thinking it's really warm.

No crafting today. I don't tend to do a lot of it at the weekend. We visited middle son yesterday. He's moved very close to Lake Michigan. We haven't explored there a lot but I found out there was a lighthouse there so we decided to stop by yesterday. Unfortunately the pier was closed that you walk along to get to the lighthouse. It was bloody cold anyway. I could only manage a few minutes outside before my fingers got really, really cold and I could barely hold on to the camera.

I did manage to get a few pics though. I bet this is beautiful in the summer. We will be visiting. I was sad that I couldn't get the other side of the lighthouse as last year I got some beautiful pictures of the icy side of another lighthouse. I'll have to see if I can drag up the pictures.

Some of the lake is frozen but it doesn't look like all of it is.

The ice build-up along the pier was interesting.

Wish it had been just a little warmer so I could have spent more time getting pictures!
