What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday? Answer: a mess

No ongoing projects sitting on my desk this week as I join with Julia and the gang over at Stamping Ground for another What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

I'm sorting through piles. At the moment it's cross stitch bits. They seem to have taken root all over the house and multiplied. I'm digging through tubs and finding half-finished projects, finished unframed projects, ready-to-go projects and floss galore. My poor craft room is in need of a good sort - as is the rest of my house - so for now that's what I'm working on.

This was the first lot I sorted through earlier in the week and there was only more to find!

I sorted them all out into numbered baggies (about four or five to a bag) and then put them in a little drawer organiser my son got me last year. I printed off a full list of numbers and marked them off as I put them away. That way when I am bagging up a project I'll know if I have the floss or not. I have so many doubles (and triples!).  This does seem like a never ending task but I'm hoping I'll get through it!

Hopefully others are doing more crafty projects! Looking forward to visiting desks.

  1. OH MY! What a lot of creativity going on at your desk today. GOOD LUCK with sorting out the dies and X stitch bits and bobs - had a sort through myself recently and put ten dies on FB to sell, so far? Sold TWO! Better than nothing though.

  3. Firstly thanks for calling by at mine earlier and for your lovely comment. I used to do a lot of cross stitch but I never collected quite as much floss as you've got there....that's amazing.
Hope you have a great week.

I've just taken up cross stitch again . I'd not done any for about five yrs now so only taking on small projects for now.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  6. Do you ever sort through stuff, get distracted and start making stuff with it? I do. Love the look of cross-stitch, I just can't get the hang of it myself! Happy WOYWW! Sez X #42

  8. You've certainly got a lot of embroidery thread there - it's going to be much easier to manage once it's sorted - I wound mine onto little embroidery cards but it was painfully time-consuming! A lovely feeling when it's done though!
Hope you have a great week and get loads of sorting done,

  9. Wow, that's a whole heap of floss you have there!! It's so easy to be seduced by all the colours tough...when I was making those embroidered felt ornaments before Christmas I ended up with far more than I needed 😃 It'll be a long job but well worth it in the long run!
See you in a couple of weeks,
    Hugs, LLJ 17 xxx

  19. Aaaah, UFO's - the bane of crafter's everywhere!! Liking the look of all those threads, though cross stitch hasn't been my thing for many years - think I fall in love with the product more than the finished results! Good Luck with the sorting (and I hope you can remember where you put eveything when it's done!). Thanks for your earlier visit! Cindy #25

  20. It's lovely to get organised, isn't it, Sharon! I've got loads of embroidery threads too, mostly in plastic bags according to colour, and all in a large plastic box. It's also great to start getting on top of all those pesky UFOs and clear some space too, isn't it! Wishing you well with it all! Thank you for your lovely comment - my ME is a hard task master and never lets me get away with overdoing things - after 10 years I should have learnt that but since getting over my cancer I seem to be having to re-learn the art of pacing! It's hard to stop when you are feeling so much better, though, and then you get payback. I've been baking most of today and had to have a sleep before supper! Thanks - my tooth is a lot better now and I hope it doesn't flare up again and need to be extracted. Horrible business. Sorry your daughter had such an awful time with hers. Glad you are enjoying the video about the vintage albums - I thought they were beautiful and have been wanting to make something like that for ages. Not sure how long it will take me though, because I must stay on course working on my UFOs!

    Happy WOYWW,

  23. Thanks so much for your lovely comments. Now that is an amazing assortment of embroidery cottons. So easy to buy doubles and triples unless you have a system. Well done for taking on the task.

  24. That looks like quite an organizing project, but it will be so rewarding in the end to have a system that allows you to see quickly if you have the floss or not!

  26. It's good to take the time to organize the craft supplies, isn't it? This way, you'll know what you have and what you need to get when you next visit that big craft store near your daughter's new home! :D

  28. Wow! that is a lot of embroidery thread!! I have a drawer with them all just stuffed in and similar UFOs dotted about. Sounds like a brilliant idea to bag them and number and have a list and I bet it's a strangely meditative process once you get into it :o) Annie C #53

  30. HI Sharon! And you commented on me being organized! LOL That is a lot of floss. When we moved to the country in Mo from the 'city' in IL, I made sure to purchase at least 2 of every DMC color so I would have what I needed. I didn't know what my crafting outlet options would be other than walmart. Mine are all in 2 3" 8.5 x 11 floss binders. Just have to figure out where they are going in the new studio. Right now they are still in the old sewing room in the basement Creative Blessings ~Kelly #41
