Beginning of the Week

 Sunday was wet and very windy. We took a drive over to the lakeshore just to get away for a little bit. I managed to get out at South Haven and and take a few photos but the sand was blowing and stung when it hit my skin. Earlier this year to help try to contain the rising waters they put in barriers that basically consist of barrels filled with sand. Sand has also built up behind them and when the wind blows it just whips up that sand. Once I made it to the other side of the barrels it was better. From there we went down to St Joe to check out the waves but we barely made it out of the car! The rain had started to come down and we were soaked when barely got out of the car. We ended up not walking at all. 

I've started on some photo projects for Christmas. Hopefully I'll get them done in time. I'm trying to do a calendar for daughter and her boyfriend of photos I've taken of the dogs this year. Although I don't see them too often (especially this year) I take a lot of dog photos when I do see them. They enjoyed the one I made for them last week so hopefully they'll like this one too. 

I've been playing around with Photoshop again so I took one of my photos that I took at South Haven and played around with different textures as the sky was quite flat. I kind of like way it turned out. I've printed a few of the ones I've done out and they look quite good. 

Wild Waves at the Lakeshore

I did end up going to the lakeshore a little later in the afternoon after ringing my Mum and chatting with her. I was going to wait until husband got off work, but he's on nine hour days and by the time he had got home and we got to the lakeshore I knew the light would be fading. So I got up the courage to go by myself. The drive wasn't too bad, but I was glad I left when I did. When I got there the water had come up over half of the car park. Some people were driving through it to go round and park, but I wasn't that brave. I ended up pulling through a parking place to another that was out of the water. The water got higher and was quite deep by the time I left.  It was cold and a little rainy so I had to make sure to try to keep my lens dry and clean. I did get a little wet as - though I was standing what I thought was well enough back - a wave came up and went over my boots wetting my feet. Brrr… it was cold!

It always amazes me just how wild the waves get. The lake looked really angry as the skies were dark too. I ended up moving up to the cliff top and walking down some steps to higher beach to get some photos. I wish I had started out there as it seemed a little less crowded and safer. There are lots of people who come to see the water when it gets that wild.

I took this photo just so I could document how far up the water came. The car is not even in the furthest part of the car park. They were a lot braver (or more stupid) than me. I would not have parked there! You can see nothing of the beach at all.

A couple of different views.  I'm glad I went - but I've had enough excitement for a couple of days!

I hope everyone in America who celebrates Thanksgiving had an enjoyable day. It was a pretty quiet one here. We did go to MIL's for dinner - lovely as always.

Monday, Monday - sleepy

Well, daughter is home but not without incident. About four hours away from here her engine light came on in her jeep. From here we managed to google a mechanic shop about an hour away from her. This is a Sunday evening so not a lot is open and they all close early! Luckily, she made it to the car place before the car stopped. It's a good thing she did as when she tried to start it again it wouldn't start! Her alternator on the jeep went out.

We were worried that she would have to try and find somewhere to stay for the night. Not so easy with the dog in tow. Thankfully, the car place was able to fix her car - they stayed late - and she went on her way. I couldn't go to sleep until I knew she was safely home. No way I was going to be able to sleep! She made it back at about 1.50am (12.50am her time).

Today I've spent the day catching up on the wash, sorting things out and cleaning. I've got a few things she forgot to take so I'll have to either send or she can take when she comes in December.

Sunset by the lighthouse - we went there one night last week to watch. Very pretty!
