It's Friday again and time to join with Amy over at Love Made My Home for Five on Friday.
I was trying to think of something to write for my Five on Friday post this Friday. I really enjoy joining in with these so wanted to participate. With everything going on this week including yet another senseless tragedy in the city where I live I struggled a little. Earlier this year there was a mass shooting in our city where six people were randomly killed and two more injured. This week a pick-up truck plowed into a group nine people riding their bikes and killed five of them. The other four are in hospital. With all the bad going on I decided to post five random things that make me smile.
Renaissance Festivals
They are such fun to go to. For one day you can live in a fantasy land. There are jousts and jesters, fairies and fair maidens, fun and laughter. Since the kids grew too old for the Apple Orchard we've been visiting the Ren Faire in Holly Michigan the last few years. I treasure each year as they are all grown adults and I know that, one day, they will no longer be able to find the time to go.
Deer
I see these when I am out walking sometimes. They are such majestic creatures. Remembering this one always makes me smile. I was out walking at the nature preserve and it started raining. I started walking really fast to try to get back to my car before the rain really started coming down. This deer was hurrying the other way coming further into the woods. We both just stopped and looked at one another. I think we were both shocked to see the other!
Flowers
I am terrible about growing them. I think I have a brown thumb. I have discovered the joy of wildflowers that are very easy to grow and forgiving! I do however enjoy looking at them and taking photos of them. Seeing flowers always reminds me of my Mum as she enjoys them so.
Shasta
Shasta is my daughter's recently adopted rescue dog, a Siberian Husky. My daughter and I don't live in the same city. She always texts me pictures of what her dog is up to. Shasta is such a lovely dog. I'm not sure why she was given up but she is such a sweet dog and my daughter is very lucky to have adopted her. The first picture is the latest one - Shasta got worn out after a run at the dog park!
Bunny
I've seen it a couple of times in the past two weeks. It always makes me smile when I see it. I get a little mad too as last year, my first year planting an edible garden, something (I suspect the bunny or a deer) ate the lettuce I planted. It was growing so well, faster than a lot of the other plants in the garden. I was looking forward to eating it. One day I went out and the whole lot was gone. I had planted three lettuce. Two of them were almost eaten to the ground and the other had disappeared completely! Not long after the other two disappeared too. I'm thinking both the deer and the rabbit enjoyed a meal!
Thanks for sharing a few of the things that make me smile!
Naughty deer and rabbbits but so beautiful too and wonderful to see. It is good to find joy in simple things when there is so much tragedy around:)
ReplyDeleteOh Sharon such terrible news, you have found a lovely five though. I love your daughter's new dog, she looks a beauty. Your pictures of the flowers are very pretty too. Have a lovely weekend xx
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed seeing your 5 today, the flowers are gorgeous especially the crocus. I had to smile at the deer photo, he looks very annoyed that your were in his way.
ReplyDeletebon weekend
Maggie
Sorry about the tragedies in your area. I heard about the bicycle riders. So sad. I'm glad you found five nice things to think about and share. We have a growing population of wild bunnies here and it's always interesting to see what they like to nibble on. I need to put a renaissance faire on my list of things to do! Hope your weekend is lovely!
ReplyDeleteA lovely five. How great to come face to face with the deer but not so good if he was responsible for eating your lettuce plants. I guess you are going to have to make your vegetable garden deer and rabbit proof (not sure how you can achieve that though). Have a great weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteA wonderful five to think about and make you smile. Sorry to hear about the recent tragedies in your area.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read of the terrible tragedies near where you live, but am pleased you were able to find five happy things to share. Firstly - what a wonderful acquaintance with the deer, so majestic. I live near a forest and have not seen a deer for a long time, the last time was actually in the city of Glasgow, not in the wilderness. How amazing you got a pic. too. I adore the photographs of the flowers and its wonderful it evokes memories of you mother enjoying them too. And I do also admire you daughters new husky, we hope to adopt a rescue dog one day.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, it's tough being a gardener but there are a lot of hungry animals about! :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the awful news in your area. There is so much awfulness in the world unfortunately. The rescued dog looks so comfortable. As someone who rescued a dog last year, I know just how grateful and loving rescue dogs can be. Have a lovely weekend xx
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet Shasta!! I love the blue eyes looking over the car seat. And love the flowers, especially the mult-petals [English] rose!! Oh, and one of my favorite action exhibits at those festivals [I don't trust myself on how to spell renaissance] is.........jousting!!
ReplyDeleteYour five have made me smile, particularly the flowers and that cute little fairy house. It is so sad about the tragedies and all the people it must have affected. Have a good weekend with plenty to smile about.
ReplyDeletenice post
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the sad things happening in your town. I hope that the rest of the year passes more quietly for you all. It is good to have nice things to focus on, so I am glad that you found five things to share. Your photo of the deer is incredible! I bet that you have greener fingers than you think too! Thank you for taking part in Five On Friday. I hope you have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteI will never understand the senseless killing vs happening in this country. Love Ren Faires.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of the tragedies in your area. Even in the midst of sadness, it is good to find simple joys, and I think you found some! Oh, that beautiful dog certainly makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteGreat flower photos!
Despite this awful senseless news I'm glad that you can find things to smile about. It's important to do that xxxx

ReplyDeleteThere is a wonderful Renaissance Faire in our area. We used to go every year when we first moved to the area. Haven't been in years, but have some lovely memories (and wind chimes). Your flowers are lovely and Shasta looks like she has found her fur-ever home. Sweet bunnies and deer -- if only they would stay out of the garden, but they are fun to see and they were here before we were! :) Hope your week is lovely.
ReplyDeleteRen Faire looks awesome, we don't really have that sort of thing around here :(
