There was no frost this morning. I must admit that I was a little disappointed. I got out for a nice walk though. I shall get up and go again tomorrow but I think on Saturday I'm going to give it a miss and have a lie-in. I haven't been sleeping well at night and seem to sleep better right as the alarm has been going off. I'm really dragging this evening. Just waiting for son to ring and then I'm off to bed.
I briefly went up in the craft room today. I had other household things I needed to get done and managed to keep myself on track enough to get them done. I think that, as the colder weather comes, I will be spending more time up there. I am going to have to turn the heat down as costs are going up and it is always nice and toasty up there. I just need to make myself split my time between sorting/decluttering/organising and actually crafting.
How are you planning to combat rising heat costs?
Here in my part of Michigan it gets really, really cold (I've complained about it enough) and not having the heat on at all just isn't an option. I don't want to be cold all the time either. I do bundle up in layers, have blankets for when I am sitting and if my hands get really cold in the house, I use handwarmers. It sounds kind of silly, but my hands and feet are usually always cold in winter. I have some nice thick socks too and comfy, warm slippers. Our house is open planned. I wish it was more like my house that I grew up in. There was a door on the kitchen and a door on the living room. It was easy just to heat one room. I am wondering whether it is more cost efficient to have a small electric heater on in the living room. I don't suppose I'm the only one thinking about this.
Well, son has rung now and I'm going to toddle off to bed.

My kind of cloud day this morning. Just beautiful and quiet.
My downstairs is also pretty open plan and, yes, I'm wondering how to stay warm and be economical with the fuel bills. I'm planning to layer up more and keep moving and hoping for a mild winter. I'm turning down the individual thermostats in the other bedrooms too. xx
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately we can't do that with our heat. I am thinking of turning down the heating and using a small electric fire to warm the main room. Otherwise husband and I are planning on layering up. My sister said she was thinking of having her hot water bottle with her in the living room. I might just do that!

Oh I bet you are! That is one thing I really miss about the difference in houses.
DeleteKeeping warm in my house has been a motto before, but not sure just how much the bill will go up by. The craft room is really warm - a nice excuse to craft more!
Fortunately my home isn't open plan so I think it's easier to keep each room warm. I have a Wi-Fi thermostat that I can carry from room to room so just raise the temperature in the room I'm in, rather than keeping all of the house hot. I'm probably going to invest in a couple of draft excluders as well, to see if it makes a difference. And of course, wear more layers and make good use of snuggle blankets. x

DeleteI think I'll make a blanket tent over my knees and feet with a hot water bottle placed on the floor next to my feet while I am knitting as that is when I am most likely to feel cold. I don't feel the cold too badly but my poorly hip joint doesn't like the cold.
ReplyDeleteMy body is quite warm, but it's my hands and feet where I feel it the most. I might just keep fingerless gloves on inside. Sounds silly, but I'm in my own home and who will really see? If it saves me turning up the heat a bit more it will be worth it! Husband and son are mostly comfortable with the temperature as it is in the house.
DeleteSounds sensible to me. Anything we can do to cut our bills but stay warm and comfortable is a great idea.
DeleteI don't know if this is a useful idea (I'm starting with a temperature so my imagination has even less checks than normal) but would it be worth arranging furniture to corner off a small area, like a few chairs and throws that will keep draughts away and even a screen of sorts (or a grown up blanket fort) and just heat that corner with a heater? It won't be as efficient as heating a small room, but it will perhaps focus the heat a little. Sending warming vibes.
