Adventures in Knitting -- part three

I am still plodding along on my scarf. I will have it finished in time to wear it. It is quite long but I like a nice long scarf so I'm going to continue for a while and then - gasp! horror! - I'm going to learn how to cast off. Youtube here I come.

I love the colours of this!

Now that I'm coming to the end of this I'm trying to decide what to do next. I found this terrific book at the library.

I'm thinking of asking for it for Christmas. I am going to try some of the squares to get an idea of different stitches used before tackling patterns.

I've been watching some knitting/crafting podcasts. There are so many great ones with lovely things they have made. I know it will be a long time before I can tackle something even close to what they make, but it is interesting to see what can be knitted.

I enjoyed watching Toad Hollow. These ladies are sisters and I found their podcast quirky and fun.

Crafternoon Treats is another one I've enjoyed. There is so much talent out there! I was looking for general craft podcasts but I couldn't seem to find any. Can anyone recommend something they enjoy? Just for fun. Nothing too serious. I needed a break from listening to the radio with all the news on.

  1. I've just finished making a scarf for myself in autumn colours. I think I might be at the same kind of standard as you. I've now knitted about five scarves, but I daren't try anything else. That book looks interesting. I might try to find it.

    1. I'm taking the plunge and am trying different stitch. I'm doing a dish cloth right now in a basket stitch (that I admit I've pulled apart several times as I wasn't concentrating). I am going to try the yarn over and increasing next!

  2. That scarf is looking pretty even, so you are obviously doing something right. I have now successfully used the magic knot, thank you for introducing me to that wonderful hint.

The book of squares looks interesting, but I loathe sewing up knitted stuff with a passion, so I would rather do strips or just cast on a gazillion stitches and knit until I run out of yarn to make a blanket. If you can get the hang of sewing the squares together then you will have a lot more options.

I'm watching with interest to see what else I learn. x

    1. I love that knot! It looks great. I can't tell at all where I joined. I'm trying a dish cloth right now in a different stitch. I thought I might try a few of those.

    1. Casting off was really easy! I have to just tuck the ends in, put on the fringe and hopefully post a finished picture!

  4. I have that book. When you've tried all the squares, you can join them and make cushion covers, throws or if you are feeling ambitious - a bed cover.
