November Already - Five on Friday

It's the first Friday in November and it's time to join with Amy over at Love Made My Home for another Five on Friday.

I'm over at my daughter's today dog sitting her husky, Shasta, while she travels down to the town I live in to visit overnight with some friends. She's a big old softie and the first thing she wants to do in the morning before even going out is having a lot of cuddles.

She's looking rather sad and pitiful. This is the first time daughter has been away from her since she got her about six months ago. She can't stay at our house due to this fellow.

Shadow is our cat. He's about 16 and really grumpy. He and Shasta do not get along.

The rest of the week here saw me actually get a start on my Christmas cards! Yes, I pulled stuff out and started deciding what to actually make. I'm joining in with the swap at Love Made My Home so hopefully they will turn out well. I actually only make a few for close family and friends. Same with homemade gifts. I am making an album for my Mum of pictures from her birthday and (shhh!) a mini-album for daughter of pictures of Shasta.

Definitely lots of Autumn in the air when we went for a walk. I turned the heat on last week. I was hoping to last until November but didn't quite make it! However on Tuesday the weather was so beautiful I actually had the windows open again.

Lots of fungus around to see in the woods too. I looked both up and down to find it. It's another one of those weird things I find quite interesting. There are so many colours and types around. I find myself searching high and low for it when we are out and about on our walks.

Shasta really liked her new backpack. Huskies like to be kept busy and feel useful. Daughter's hoping it will help wear her out - it seemed to work a little!

I think that's Five! I hope it is. I'll be around to visit today and tomorrow when I'm back at home.

  1. She certainly is a beautiful dog. I too have made a start on Christmas I find making cards quite therapeutic.

  2. It's been great to be able to still get out and about and enjoy the leaves and fungi but today it's wet and cold and not such fun. Have a good week

  5. I think most cats want to be an only child. They are royalty afterall, and not used to sharing your attention. So happy you went to Shasta, though, because she seems to need some love while she adjusts to being away from her mistress occasionally.

  6. Hope you enjoy your time with Shasta and what a lovely cat. Your photos are very nice. We had our heat on once to test it and one time used our wood burning fireplace but so far it has been quite warm in the daytime. Weather man said it was the warmest October since 1963 and I am still wearing shorts! Rather crazy eh.

  8. Beautiful autumn shots. The fungi are really thriving right now here in the Pacific Northwest, too. A backpack for a dog is a great idea...

  11. I enjoy the fungi in the wood as well. Did you know that Beatrix Potter studied fungi? She made such detailed and extensive drawings that some of them are still used in text books today. She had to have special permission to enter the Kew gardens in London -women were not allowed at the time.

  12. What a gorgeous dog, I do like large dogs, but we too have a cat that rules the roost.

  13. I am hoping to have a visit to the northern hemisphere during the autumn (next year would be nice) to see the lovely colours and fungi. Shasta is a lovely looking dog.

  14. What a gorgeous looking dog, I'd love to have a husky! Funnily enough we had the windows open last week but we are now back to a biting wind and the rain has finally just made an appearance so it will be slippery underfoot tomorrow. Have a wonderful Sunday x

  15. Shadow looks like a character and not to be argued with! Mind you at the grand age of 16 why not do as you please? I find fungi fascinating too - all the different colours, shapes and sizes.

  16. Gorgeous autumnal pics. I love this time of year for its colour, the conkers/beech mast/acorns/chestnuts and the fungi, which fascinates me, too, so thank you for this post. x
