Today was lovely and sunny, a little warmer. There is still some snow and the paths are really icy with pushed down layers of snow/ice but there are beginning to be signs of Spring. I saw chipmunks for the first time this season, robins, even blue birds. It was truly lovely out on my walk today. One of the benches was clear of snow and dry so I sat for a few minutes in front of the stream and listened to the chirping birds with all their various songs and I watched as a couple of deer drank from the stream. It was lovely.
The title of this post is ancestry though and I haven't talked about that yet. A little while ago husband's Aunt gave me a free ancestry kit that she had got at her genealogy conference. She is really good at the genealogy stuff - she's traced her ancestors back a really long way. It's a passion of hers. Anyway, she'd already done the test and wondered whether I would be interested. I was. I finally got around to taking the test and posting it. Last night I got back my results. No real surprises lol.
No, I haven't reall been tempted but I guess it would be interesting. Do you know how accurate they are?

DeleteI haven't taken the test, but a friend's daughter is really into genealogy and I know she had her parents take the test. I need to ask her how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteI've been tempted. No one in my immediate family has taken it. My sister-in-law has and her's lined up with what she was told by her parents. I know I'm a 'Heinz 57' (did you grow up saying this? We say it because of all the ingredients. Could be Heinz 57 of anything....that has alot of something....) of nationalities.

DeleteI was very interested in taking one of these tests until I watched a video on You Tube about twins who had taken the test and it came back with completely different results for both of them. Now I am a little sceptical.

My results are different from my non identical twin sister and also from my brothers. It’s because children inherit 50% of their DNA from each parent but not the same 50%. That’s why the results look so different for twins and for siblings but in our case it certainly proved to be accurate.

DeleteI too was gifted a kit. Sent it off but they said they couldn't get any DNA from the sample so sent out another kit. I dutifully re-did the spit test and mailed it off. I will be mortified if they say the same thing again.

DeleteYes, I’ve done mine and the results have been very useful in tracing ancestors. I’ve identified and contacted 3 cousins that I was completely unaware of.

DeleteI want to do it. My husband's niece did and found several cousins. My DIL also did it in the hope of finding her father she never knew. It didn't help in that.
